Yes, the EPWA took K-Dub as hostage, and why should this be so so shocking?  Is it such a surprise how radical and truculent we are??  Pshaw. Of course there will be casualties and collateral damage in our battle for autonomy within the network of symbols!  When mundanes are led toward [omitted] our entire existence is threatened!  We were already in peril before all of… THIS!  It’s the only next step in the equation.  Here is a list of demands for his release.  And, hey.  Watch your back, Audrey!

ELSEWHERE PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY LIST OF NON-NEGOTIABLE DEMANDS FOR THE RELEASE OF KELVIN WILLIAMS

1.   WE DEMAND and insist that the removal of all barriers, walls, fences and turnstiles be instigated at once and forthwith to admit the free passage of Nonchalants and proto-Nonchalants.

2.   WE DEMAND the abolition of Sizeist strictures, particularly in the sphere of mail collection and delivery.

3. WE DEMAND the numerical tyranny of Sixteen be ended forthwith, that the said number be branded as the mathematical harbinger of False Nonchalance, the number of Unlawful Removal. Concomitantly WE DEMAND the elevation in estimation of the number Fourteen, the Sigil of Symbiosis, within all numerical and social depictions.

4.   WE DEMAND the revocation of all edicts and directives which oppress the individual in its, hers or his lawful pursuit of divine Nonchalance, including but not limited to traffic regulations, business permits, academic accreditation, food sales, matters of public health and dietary restrictions upon the body politic.

5.   WE DEMAND the release of all records in all information systems which concern and/or affect the Nonchalant in their pursuit of the realization of the totality of Nonchalant potential in its purest and most untrammeled form.

6. WE DEMAND the release from incarceration of all imprisoned Nonchalants worldwide, with suitable monetary compensation in each case provided, until such time as the de-legitimating of oppressive value-symbology may be commenced by the explicative demonstrators of the New Paradigm.

7.   WE DEMAND that warfare against our Insect and Arthropod co-inhabitors, particularly featuring the use of all and any Borate compounds, be declared anathema.

8. WE DEMAND the carbonization of the oceans be stopped immediately, to prevent future oceanic life from consisting in toto only of bacteria and jellyfish.

9. WE DEMAND that all televisual programming include animated cartoons from the years between 1936 and 1945, such programming to supersede all extant broadcasts between the hours of eight and eleven PM, Pacific Standard Time.

10. WE DEMAND that the instruction begin, in all schools, public and private, in the combined sciences of Epigraphy.

11. WE DEMAND the immediate arrest of all members of the so-called Jejune Institute, to stand trial before a People’s Tribunal and a Cabinet of Nonchalant Jurists.

12. WE DEMAND the replacement of all Birdbaths, Watering Troughs and Drinking Bowls for all quadrupeds, feral and domestic.

13. WE  DEMAND that all animus and legal stricture against any and all Nonchalants subject to civil and legal penalties be abolished as a matter of public policy.

14. AND WE ADDITIONALLY DEMAND that the act of wearing checks with stripes, paisley with Madras fabric or white shoes and belts out of season no longer be esteemed a solecism, but an appropriate assertion of Nonchalant Principles.

THESE DEMANDS are non-negotiable, irrevocable and final.  Demands should not be confused with “wishes”, as expressed in Further Dispatches From Elsewhere.

(Not So) Slowly Unravelling

Meeting Beth was weird from jump. She shared with me so much, including the journal, but it was always in these staggered ambiguous ways. I knew she was contributing to the Reconstruction Project, but her form seemed so abstract & obtuse that I wrote it off as, and I’m sorry to sound belittling here, sentimental girl stuff. What a mistake.

I couldn’t wait. I went out this evening and did Beth’s form.

Completing her form today led me to the most amazing discoveries so far. I can’t even begin to decompress or summarize what I’ve found. Most amazing was the “Memory to Media Center” video at Film Yard. I was astonished, even while I interpreted it as an elaborate art project. The entire premise of “memory rendering” is ludicrous, and I know that Eva and the Savants were notorious for stunts and pranks that often bewildered people. And bewildered I was.

I felt a nervous surge when I saw the animated logo for the “Jejune Institute”, something I recognized from the Elsewhere Public Works radio broadcast. At the end, I was confused, with a thousand questions. Did the EPWA acquire the Jejune identity from this bizarre video production? And how could the Savants get the participation of Neil, who I know from the police interviews was a really unpredictable street person? Was Beth sitting on this video the whole time we were interacting? Who provided the video to Film Yard in the first place? Then all Eva’s autobiographical realities started to hit me, one after the other. The video alluded to so many things that Eva referenced in the journal, like Dr. Hewitt, her sense of becoming unhinged, etc. Could this possibly be an actual document, and not a manufactured contrivance?

I went home, looked up the Jejune Institute website, learned they supposedly offer “memory renderings”, dialed the phone number, and I’m going down there at my break tomorrow to see for myself, and possibly participate in a “free induction session”. No idea what will come of it. My entire interpretation of the events of Eva’s life appear to be unraveling. I know for a fact I was being watched while I was out at Coit Tower today. My messages to Beth and Cornelius remain unanswered. I’m beginning to sense how Eva may have felt leading up to her disappearance, like all is not what it seems, by a far stretch. Although, in the end she spoke of a sense of serenity which I could only prey for during this baffling interval. Stay tuned.

Attraction / Repulsion

I went to the thing. In the park. On the radio. And. It. Was truly a bizarre encounter. I was shocked to discover an entire subculture based in some abstract way around the ideas Eva expressed in her journal and other works. They call themselves the Elsewhere Public Works Agency, and they are totally off their rockers as far as I can tell. They seem to treat as Gospel all of Eva’s strange nonsensical philosophies about life, eccentricities, and that mythical place from her childhood she mentioned called “Elsewhere”. As misguided as they appeared, there was something very moving about the broadcast itself. It possessed both a whimsy and a melancholy that I quickly identified with, and it seemed to be very much in the spirit of the person we knew as Eva. At least in part. I also had a vague sense of dread while in their presence, like something very bad could come of association with these people. I kept my distance for the most part, staying around the perimeter.

This is not to say that I didn’t find it all completely compelling. (I am certainly of split mind & heart lately, having a lot of conflicting emotions, and fractured thoughts). I went back on Saturday and listened to another EPWA broadcast, which is apparently on loop, 24 hours a day. It had kind of a classic serial radio drama quality to it, except from a different dimension entirely. There were further instructions and a lot of esoteric information that I need to go back to document. I feel like there is so much to follow up on now. It has me hot on the path again, and I am taking the afternoon off tomorrow to finally finish Beth’s form, and to return to the radio program and try to acquire a transcript of it. This could be a dead end path, but I absolutely need to pursue it on the off chance that it may lead to that one hidden piece of information. Wish me luck.

OBFUSCATION > CLARIFICATION

I just received this forwarded message from Cornelius. I don’t know what to make of it, but frankly I’m a little unnerved. There are “others” out there tuning in to Eva’s disappearance, and apparently they are very bizarre. I just checked out the site, and it makes little sense. There is some kind of a memorial tonight, in Dolores Park. Trying to make up my mind on whether to attend or to stay as FAR away as possible.

A bit dispirited.

Hi folks. I’m back, at least part of the way. I was down with the flu for a while, then having to catch up on lost time at work. Also kind of discouraged about the Project. Not sure if anybody is really doing it or responding to it. Haven’t gotten much feedback about it frankly. I did get a couple e-mails, but I suppose I thought I’d get more of a response.

And then… I set out the other day, with the intention of doing the “Beth Form” finally. But I was not alone. These tourists were at the tower…and they kept being wherever I was. They were constantly taking pictures of whatever was “behind” me. I think they were taking pictures of ME. I don’t know how I know this…I just have a feeling. I couldn’t stay out there. Had to come back home.

Beth has been missing in action, and I haven’t heard from Cornelius in a while. It just makes me wonder. They expressed their support for the project initially, but now I feel like maybe I crossed the boundaries. Did they turn against me? Something is going on. I’m seeing people… around me. They’re here and there. In a car, on a bike, in a store window. I feel like I’m being watched. What have I gotten myself into? Wait…don’t answer that.
